What is there to know about when considering the assistance of a marriage coach?
All about Marriage Coaching
Raising children, managing financial challenges, working long hours, and handling personal issues—all while navigating the highs and lows of life together—can strain even the strongest relationships, including those without significant conflict.
It’s no surprise that nearly 50% of marriages end in divorce, with the rates rising to 67% for second marriages and 74% for third marriages. While some marriages are simply not meant to last due to incompatibility or growing apart, many fail because couples struggle to address challenges or communicate effectively. Fear of expressing feelings often leads to silence, and over time, resentment builds within the relationship.
What Exactly Is Marriage coaching?
Marriage counselors, who are generally Licensed Marriage and Family Therapists (LMFT), are specially educated to assist couples in diagnosing and resolving difficulties. If you are specifically looking for a Licensed marriage counselor, contact your state board of certification or insurance company to refer you the name of all LMFT licensed counselors so you can schedule a session to address the challenges you are facing.
Marriage coach (which WE provide) provides a secure environment for couples to work things out and discuss what is genuinely on their minds. Marriage coaches can provide similar services as counselors but aren’t limited to their state of licensing. Marriage coaches have the ability to service couples worldwide. Their knowledge is very similar, but the coaches have much broader exposure and capability to service everyone that needs help. Also, marriage coaches DO NOT accept insurance, however, will charge less than HALF the price of LMFT’s service fees.
We all know that communication is an essential part of any relationship, especially when it comes to resolving marital difficulties, and marriage coaching is one of the greatest methods to strengthen communication skills, reach mutual understandings, and figure out how to go on as a couple — or, if necessary, gracefully dissolve a marriage.

Who Should Seek the services of a marriage coach?
Marriage coaching (which we provide) isn’t just for couples facing divorce but also for those looking to avoid reaching that point. Marriage comes with many challenges—finances, kids, and even addictions—and disagreements on these can strain relationships. Seeking the guidance of a marriage coach can benefit any couple, especially those committed to making their relationship work long-term.
Though it’s called “marriage counseling,” which requires state certification (LMFT), you don’t need to be married to benefit from it. Couples coaching, which we offer, helps those who aren’t yet married but want to improve their communication and relationship skills before tying the knot legally.
Both marriage and couples counseling (requiring a license) cater to all genders, races, sexual orientations, and non-traditional relationships, such as long-distance, open marriages, or couples living apart. Marriage coaching, which doesn’t require a state license but offers similar support, is suitable whether you’re newlywed or have been married for decades. Many couples also seek coaching before marriage.
Even a few sessions of marital coaching can help couples resolve issues they can’t manage alone, providing an objective, impartial perspective.
However, there are several specific concerns that usually cause couples to seek coaching, such as:
- Couples who have just faced a tragedy or loss and are having difficulty processing it together.
- Couples who believe that home obligations are uneven and are unable to properly talk or come up with solutions.
- Couples that differ on issues such as children, finances, or lifestyle.
- Couples who believe they have lost their sexual or romantic chemistry
- Couples struggling with substance misuse, adultery, or mental or physical illness.
- Couples who believe they are being ignored or that their partner is emotionally unavailable.
- Couples who feel they are having the same quarrel over and again and find it difficult to see eye to eye or find a solution.
- Couples who believe their marriage is running on autopilot.

Do Marital Coaches advocate for divorce?
Typically, marriage coaches believe that decisions like divorce should be made solely by the spouses involved.
What really takes place during marriage coaching session, either virtually (for clients out of state or city) and face to face?
Since the marital coach (which we are) aims to observe how you both interact and equip you with improved communication skills, this approach is the most effective for ensuring a healthy marriage. After evaluating your relationship, the coach can then offer appropriate recommendations.
If your spouse is unable or unwilling to join the sessions, you can still consult the coach by sharing your own experiences. However, it’s important to note that the coach will only hear your perspective, which may limit the effectiveness of their guidance for your marriage.
Marriage counseling (holding a LMFT accreditation) are limited to the state they are accredited in. They can’t practice anywhere else unless have taken their licensing exam on other states as well.
Marriage counseling is definitely needed for couples who are contemplating divorce as all other forms of communication between them have failed. The service provides a secure space for couples to express sentiments that aren’t typically spoken openly, which can be tough for both spouses to listen to. Also, some sense of resentment may pop up at times as the other person get finally the chance to open up and express themselves vocally, which doesn’t always happen at home.
Remember that working with a marriage coach is typically a short-term process. In most cases, couples learn how to address and resolve their issues together, reducing the need for ongoing coaching. If you consistently apply the coach’s advice and complete the recommended “homework” exercises, you may only require 12 to 15 sessions before you and your coach can conclude your work together.

How do you begin Marriage Coaching Services ?
DMV Logo
If one partner is hesitant about coaching, many marriage counselors offer the option to meet individually at first, allowing each person to express themselves openly without fear of judgment or rejection from their partner.
How can I persuade my husband to attend Couples Coaching?
Suggesting couples coaching to your partner can feel intimidating, especially if you’re unsure how they will react or feel embarrassed about acknowledging issues in your marriage. The key is to be open and honest, expressing your desire to strengthen the relationship without placing blame. Emphasize that you love them and want to work on maintaining a strong connection.
Marriage coaching isn’t just for fixing problems; it can be a proactive way to prevent future challenges. It equips couples with essential skills for long-term success. Virtual/online coaching is a great option for those with busy schedules, limited resources, or reservations about traditional therapy. It allows couples who travel frequently, work long hours, or face childcare constraints to access coaching. Unlike licensed therapists who are restricted to practicing in their state, coaches can work with clients globally.
Virtual coaching, delivered via text, audio, or video, is just as effective as in-person sessions, with coaches offering the same level of expertise. Some prefer the flexibility of written communication, which provides time to reflect on their responses. When choosing a marriage coach, look for someone trustworthy, solution-focused, compassionate, and well-reviewed. Checking their online reviews can help ensure they have the experience and reputation you need.

Is marriage Coaching as effective as marriage counseling effective?
Seeking professional help from a state-licensed marriage counselor increases your chances of saving a troubled marriage, though it’s common for couples to wait until it’s almost too late. Being proactive about your marriage can lead to long-term happiness, health, and financial stability. Unlike marriage counselors, who are restricted to working within their licensed state, marriage coaches can offer services worldwide. While coaches provide similar expertise at a fraction of the cost, their services are not covered by insurance. However, even with insurance, you may face large deductibles before coverage kicks in. Many couples end up paying out-of-pocket for the first 30 to 50 sessions, so a marriage coach can be a more affordable option to address your relationship needs.
